
ABOUT
Vera Westera is a versatile singer who allows her voice to move effortlessly through the infinite universe between jazz and pop.
This multitime winner of several vocal jazz-prizes graduated twice from the High School of Arts in Arnhem and has shared the stage with many musicians to make her virtuoso voice heard in all sorts of line-ups. She sang with i.a. Martin Fondse, Michiel Braam and Vadim Neselovskyi, had lessons with Kenny Werner, Dave Holland and Rhiannon – improvisation has been professionally spoon-fed to her by these masters.
Vera is a well-known and gladly seen bigbandsinger - her vocal and instrumental approach make her a remarkable asset as a soloist.
In addition to being on stage, she teaches and gives workshops, as well as doing studiojobs and regularly contributing to CD recordings.
Besides her own work on the cd ‘A View Amazing’ she can be heard at ‘Zoom Zoo’ by the Groove Troopers, ‘breakdown.yu’ by biyuya ensemble and ‘Fugitive Beauté’ by Bojan Vuletiç, with harpist Zeena Parkins and trumpet player Nate Wooley.
Vera currently sings soprano in the rather new vocal sextet 'Ambrosia a cappella', which was founded in 2018 and was chosen as finalist in may 2019 during the highly regarded IVVF festival in Aarhus, Denmark.
As well as playing the piano, she quite recently picked up the double bass as a new instrument and also takes a lot of pleasure in writing texts and lyrics.
Vera lives with her husband and son near Arnhem in The Netherlands.
